Shammi Kapoor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2011.
MUMBAI, India (AP) — Versatile Indian actor Shammi Kapoor has died after a long career in Bollywood. He was 79.

His doctor Bhupendra Gandhi says Kapoor was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital two days ago in critical condition. He was on dialysis and died Sunday of kidney failure.

Kapoor was hailed for his lighthearted roles in movies. He belonged to Bollywood's well-known Kapoor family.

His brothers Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor also were successful actors, and his father, Prithviraj Kapoor, was a well-known theater personality of the 1950s.

Shammi Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood in 1953 and acted in successful movies including "Junglee" and "Professor." He also appeared in "Brahmchari" and "Janwar."

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Hello Shammi.Until yesterday, Ihave never been familiar with you OR your work.
As I was reading your obituary in The Times Magazine, your picture looked like a portrait of another 1950's icon Sal Mineo. Amazing. And I was just listening to your song YAHOO. I like it. 1960's pop flavor too. RIP Shammi.

This is a note I received from one who teaches English in Iraq:
"I also say, with a broken heart, that I have been deeply touched by the loss of a great movie-star,a great director, and a very admirable man,the late Shammi Kapoor, who passed away on August14th,2011?BNo words can express my sadness at the loss of the man who has given generations of people so much happiness.May he rest in Peace. Please accept my condolances on this occasion.
When I visited Chandigarah the Beautiful City in2010,I purchased an MP of dozenz of Kapoor's songs.I did not have much time to get hold of his movies on DVD or CDs.I hope I will have a better chance this time to get his movies from1959 to the last movie he directed.Again,no words can describe my sadness. His AngelFace will stay in my memory and he will be praising God with the Angels and will be dancing with the all the Angels in Heaven.Amen.
Best wishes
Sincerely Yours
Dr.Ismail M.Saeed

Like the wise man Job, Shammi Kapoor can say: “If an able-bodied man dies can he live again? All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait, until my relief comes. You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands you will have a yearning." We can all look forward to a time when God will call and we will answer.

I sincerely offer my condolence for Shammi Kapoor. Despite the pain of grief, let it be your resolve to continue to work your way through heartache and sorrow. His precious life leaves many memories. Times like this make you sad. But, there is “a time to weep.” (Ecclesiastes 3:4) Yet you can have the hope of seeing your love one. “Do not let your be troubled”. (John 14:27) You may feel paralyzed by a tragedy such as this. Remember, God can help you to endure any and every problem you may face. He will give you the “power beyond what is normal” to go from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4:7) Mr. Kapoor’s footprints that were left will always be seen. The sands of time will not wash them away.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal”-Unknown

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
