SHANTI BANNWART Obituary

SHANTI BANNWART
September 4, 1938 - April 3, 2023
Santa Fe - Shanti Elke Bannwart, beloved friend, partner, mother, grandmother, counselor, ceramic artist and psychotherapist died peacefully on April 3 at the age of 84 at her home east of Santa Fe. She was born September 4, 1938 in Hamburg Germany.
In 1961, she was a chemistry technician at Nylsuisse in Lucerne, Switzerland. As a young mother in Switzerland, she trained and worked in Adult Education. In 1982, she was certified as a movement therapist at the Association for Kinaesthetics in Zurich. After raising three children with her husband, architect Louis Bannwart in Switzerland, she obtained a Master's in Expressive Therapy (in what was for her a new language) from Lesley College in Boston.
Driving down Old Santa Fe Trail in 1984, she fell in love with and moved to Santa Fe. Later, she completed the Grof Transpersonal Training and the PAIRS psychoeducational relationship program and the IMAGO relationship training for couples and singles. She also became an expert ceramic artist at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Her ceramic work decorates the interior of her Santa Fe home inside, as well as gracing its exterior grounds.
She has been featured in many galleries and magazines with her unique clay masks. In 2009, she completed a Master's in Creative Writing at Goddard College. She has written and published two books, "Dancing on One Foot" and "Secrets of the Creative Life."
She is survived by her life partner of 36 years, Dr. Claude Phipps of Santa Fe, with whom she traveled the world, her former husband Louis, her sons Eric and Alex, her daughter Esther and family of Seattle, her sister Helga and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her ashes are interred at the Rivera Family Funeral home.

Shanti´s curiosity, open minded and adventurism toward life was an inspiration.
It was a pleasure to share time with her in our meditation group.
She will be remembered.

What a beautiful and special woman Shanti was. Intelligent, spiritual, honest, loving, deeply caring, talented, in tune with nature and all living beings. She brought beauty and friendship into my life and I will treasure her always. She lived according to her convictions which is a rarity in today's world.I know we will meet again and, until then, may she rest in peace and light forever. With love.......Always, Susan King
