Shari Lachenmeier Obituary

Shari Lachenmeier

Shari "Shorty" Alice Lachenmeier, 63, Bismarck, passed peacefully on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at CHI Medical Center. A gathering will be held 1 p.m. CST Monday, Feb. 28 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. CST.

There will be a celebration of life immediately following the memorial service at the Bismarck Eagles Club, 313 N 26th St., Bismarck.

She was born in Bismarck on June 23, 1958. She lived in Napoleon from the time of birth until 1962 at which time the family moved to Bismarck. In 1968, the family moved to a rural farm east of Bismarck where she spent many memorable days with her four siblings: Marlys, Sue, Dan and Albert; and three stepsiblings: Jim, Richard, and Joanne. Together, Shari and Sue moved back to town in 1973.

Shari graduated from Bismarck High School. She went on to work for Osco Drug while she attended Bismarck State (Junior) College. She was later employed as an office assistant for Yellow Book and West Central Human Service Center.

Shari was blessed with one daughter, Amy, who she raised with the assistance of her sister Sue and the support of her family. She lived with her longtime partner, John Gierke, in south Bismarck for many years until the time of her death.

Shari enjoyed softball, volleyball, camping, campfires, games, traveling, her granddaughter's choir concerts, her grandson's baseball games and occasional visits to casinos. Family was extremely important to Shari, and she loved them unconditionally. Her grandchildren, Jace and Kendra, were a shining light in her life and she was a proud fairy godmother to Samantha and Emilee. Shari freely shared words of wisdom with all that she felt needed them. She lived life to the fullest. There were many adventures of the Three Musketeers, a trio including Shari herself and her sisters Sue (who was her very best friend, navigational copilot, confidant and partner in crime) and Marlys (who was the feet of the group pushing the wheelchairs, finding the casinos, and the wise elder). She found humor in life and always managed to be the life of the party. Thirsty Thursday and Fireball Friday were celebrated occasions. She touched all that she met and was a very memorable person even for those who she knew for a short time.

We would like to thank all those that helped her through her medical journey. The Mayo team of doctors and the CHI ICU team that she had in the end, especially Dr. Shay and Johnny, RN.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Weiand; partner, John Gierke; son-in-law, Dan Weiand; grandchildren, Jace and Kendra Weiand; sisters, Marlys (Vern Krein) Olauson and Sue Lachenmeier; brother, Albert (Deb) Lachenmeier; stepsiblings, Jim Irvine, Richard (Deb) Irvine and Joanne Reimnitz; nieces, Tracy (Faron) Reich, Kim (Chad) Hultin, Kari (Chris) Magstadt, Samantha Lachenmeier, Emilee (Ryan Novak) Lachenmeier, Tammy (Terry) Boone, and many step and grand-nieces and nephews.

Shari was preceded in death by mother, Alice (Lachenmeier) Irvine; father, Albert Lachenmeier; brother, Dan Lachenmeier; brother-in-law, Leroy Olauson; and Mel Deraas.
