A Time to Be Born and a Time to Die..
Sharlyne Shirley Thomas, affectionately known as "Da-Da", "Shar-Shar" or "Ma", daughter of Dorothy Thomas Rush and the late Keri Thomas was born on January 5, 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland. She peacefully and quietly entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
A Time to Reflect..
At an early age Sharlyne was exposed to Christian discipleship. As an infant she was dedicated to the Lord. In 1981, she dedicated her life to Christ under the pastorate of Pastor St. George I.B. Cross at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. Although she did not frequently attend church services because of health reasons, she knew being a Christian was a matter of the heart and was sure God knew her heart.
Sharlyne received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked for the Baltimore City Mayor's Office as a Clerk under the leadership of the Former Mayor of Baltimore, Kurt Schmoke. Sharlyne devoted many years working for the family business, De-Card Shop in Northeast Market.
She was a caring and devoted mother, daughter, grandmother and friend to many. She taught her children to be self-reliant and resilient and would help them in every way that she could. She enjoyed spending time with her family, goddaughter and friends.
Sharlyne was an avid fan of Bob Marley and Reggae music. She always professed her love for Bob Marley and would often joke about him being the father of her children. She also had a great affection for her cats, Tunsis and Merlin, so much that she would allow them to sleep and eat with her. Her favorite pastimes were knitting, playing games on her phone, listening and singing to music and surfing the internet. She loved interacting with her community and was an advocate for any lost person she encountered. She would welcome anyone in her home who was homeless until they got on their feet. She amazed those around her and the people that she met who witnessed her resilience, longsuffering and never complained. She had a strong, loving and dependable personality and always celebrated the lives and accomplishments of everyone. Although Sharlyne suffered many hardships with her health, she truly enjoyed life.
A Time to Rejoice In Her Memory..
Sharlyne will be remembered and loved by her mother, Dorothy Thomas Rush; stepfather, John Rush; her daughter, Mourshira; her son, Jerome; stepson, Brandon; daughters-in-law, Tera and Cheresse. Her grandchildren: Tashawnna and Jaliah. Extended grandchildren: Amira, Tyliyah, Western, Kearah, Deshawn, London, Lenae, Jabari, Jamari, Blake, Ari, Arnae, and Andre. Goddaughter, Arika; godsons, Kenneth and Kendall. Her siblings: Gregory and Ronnie; her aunt, Mary; her uncle, Charles, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. And her forever companions, Tunsis and Merlin, her cats. Preceding her in death: father, Keri and son, Dant'e.
Although we will no longer see her smile or hear her voice, she will always be with us. Nothing is ever lost to us as long as we have memories that stay forever. Sharlyne is absent from the body, but present with the Lord.
