Sharon Rice Ayers 83 of Fayetteville, Georgia passed away on November 21, 2025 at Southwest Christian Hospice in the presence of her husband Art, daughter Andrea, and son Chris, after a valiant battle with dementia. Sharon had been a resident of Fayetteville since 1978.

Sharon was born in Beckley, WV on November 4, 1942 and was the daughter of Earl and Elanor Rice. They preceded hear in death.

Sharon was also preceded in death by her dear friend of many years. Nancy Belcher of Knoxville, TN. They were really really good friends, who are in the hands of Jesus now.

Sharon is survived by a brother James Rice of Bluefield, WV. 

Sharon graduated from Concord College with a degree in English. She went on to get her Masters Degree in English Literature from West Virginia University. Sharon loved to teach. She taught at the college level for five years. She also taught numerous classes in her church, including the Bethel Bible series and Grief Share.

Sharon was a great cook for her family, her church and for needy families. She was especially good with sweets. Do you remember her Creme De Mint Brownies? She has left a legacy for Chris and Andrea to follow since they too are good cooks.

Sharon loved to grow plants and became a master gardener to hone her gardening skills. A rare plant she shared with friends was the Variegated Solomon’s Seal. She loved to share her growing skills with others.

Sharon loved to visit Chris and Andrea in Colorado. Over a period of 25 years Sharon and Art saw much of the southeast, midwest, Ontario and Maine in their motor home.

Sharon was a wonderful person with a beautiful smile. If you knew her you loved her. She loved family and church deeply. Her friendships were endless.

A service will be held in Sharon’s honor on January 10, at 2PM at the Fayette Presbyterian Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, GA.
