Sharon Crain 88 passed away peacefully in her home on May 27 2024.
She was a long-time resident of Smyrna. Sharon graduated from Sherburne Central school in 1953.
She graduated from Oneonta state with a bachelor in home economics in 1957 and started teaching home economics in Earlville central school that same year, doing graduate work at Cortland state, Cornell, and Syracuse University's.
In 1959 she married George Crain, a loving relationship bound together with classical music and opera.
She and Judi Clippenger were instrumental in keeping and improving the public library in Smyrna of which Sharon was on the board for 50 years.
Sharon loved going to school every day of her life. She told her son many times that if you don't want to go to work every day then you obviously are in the wrong job.
Home economics was a popular class for many students, and she was well loved by many students and had many friends.
Sharon was happiest at her 65 year old sewing machine, She did volunteer sewing for hundreds of family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Warren Crain of Tacoma, Washington.
Sharon was predeceased by two brothers, chief, Warren Cook, US Navy for 23 years of Norwich, New York. Master sergeant, Wally Cook, US Army for 27 years of Hot Springs Arkansas.
Memorial gifts in her honor can be made to the Smyrna public library, Chenango County SPCA or adopt a dog or a cat and love it!
Keeping with Sharon's wishes there will be no services.
