Sharon DeVore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Centerville on Jan. 9, 2026.
Sharon G. (Bradley) DeVore was born on November 24, 1943, and passed away in her sleep of natural causes on December 6, 2025. She was 82 years old.
Sharon was born in Centerville, Iowa, to Edward and Mary Bradley. She grew up on a farm northwest of Mystic with her younger brother, John. After graduating from Centerville High School in 1962, she attended Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University) in Kirksville, Missouri, where she met Gale DeVore. They married the day after Christmas, 1963, in the Base Chapel at Amarillo Air Force Base, Texas. Their son Thomas was born on October 31, 1966, and the small family moved to Topeka, Kansas, in September 1969. Until Gale's passing, they spent their lives traveling and loving their son, Tom, and their family.
Sharon was deeply involved in running the household and raising Tom. She was a volunteer at Maude Bishop Elementary School and worked diligently to help Tom earn his Arrow of Light and Eagle Scout ranks. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Topeka from 1969-2025, where she served as a Deaconess for four years. She had a diverse career, having worked at Carousel Crafts and Gifts Shop, Macy's, the Washburn University Bookstore, and the First Baptist Church of Topeka.
Sharon enjoyed many different activities and hobbies, including wood carving, tole painting, macrame, supper club, bridge club, bowling, and photography. Sharon loved travel and reading, and she was an award-winning photographer.
Sharon is survived by her son, Thomas DeVore, her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth DeVore, and her grandson, Jack DeVore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and her brother, John Bradley, of Centerville, Iowa. She is loved and missed by her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Sharon DeVore of Pomeroy, Iowa; Gary and Jean (DeVore) Smith of Albany, Oregon; Andy and Mary (DeVore) Michael of Chillicothe, Missouri; Dean and Ellen DeVore of Manson, Iowa; and Tim and the late Rona (DeVore) Lubben of Hampton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale DeVore; her parents, Edward and Mary (Pangburn) Bradley; her parents-in-law, Roger and AnnaLou (Swan) DeVore; and her brother-in-law, Gary DeVore. Within two weeks of her passing, she was joined in death by her aunt Beulah DeVore of Seymour, Iowa, and her sister-in-law, Rona Lubben of Hampton, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held in Centerville, Iowa, at the Thomas Funeral Home, 501 North 18th Street, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, and Sharon will be interred next to Gale in Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. A Celebration of Life will be held in Topeka, Kansas, in the Spring/Summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Osteoporosis Research Center at Creighton University, or First Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas.
