Obituary
Sharon Joy (Barton) Frey, 84, of Glenmont, Ohio, died peacefully on December 6, 2022 after a
long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the youngest of three children by parents Georgia
"Joy" (Orther) Barton and Earl Barton. Her sister and brother, Elaine Gasper and Vernon Barton,
currently reside in Sharon's birth state of Michigan.
Sharon leaves behind her husband, Edward Frey; two sons, James Frey (wife Hollie Petit) and
Gerald Frey (wife Michelle Frey); and two grandchildren, Erik and Marisa, who are the children
of Gerald and Michelle Frey.
Sharon grew up in Monroe, Michigan, where she met her husband, Edward Frey. They enjoyed
crashing weddings in the early days because they were always in search for new fun and
adventures. They settled down and got married on July 11, 1959.
In their 63 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling the lower 48 of the U.S. They mostly
traveled via vehicle with their children. They also took a grand adventure to Europe in 2004 to
see Italy, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and France.
Sharon and her husband, Edward, chose to uproot from South Rockwood, Michigan, and move
to Glenmont, Ohio in 1996-a move they eagerly looked forward to after purchasing their land
in 1984. Sharon enjoyed spending her days baking, gardening, and managing an extensive lawn
and a rich variety of trees and flowers. She beautified the land, and it flourished under her care.
Friends and family would agree that Sharon was an industrious person-always busy doing
something. She was also very kind-always willing to help anyone, at any time, unconditionally.
Most memorable, though, was her feistiness-she was fun and very quick to laugh! Heaven is
sure going to enjoy having Sharon around.
As far as her interests and quirks, she enjoyed watching birds and wearing the color purple. She
fretted over her hair, and would not go out in public without lipstick. She had gorgeous blue eyes
and a warm smile. In her leisure hours, she could be found on the couch wrapped up in her
favorite blanket reading a book or magazine while drinking a cup of tea. Although not
noteworthy, these are the things her family will remember-the little things that remind us of her
fondly.
Wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Sharon Frey will be greatly missed. May her many
admirable qualities live on in the memories of everyone who knew her.
