Sharon J. Jenkins, (71) was born on November 22, 1952 on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Jenkins and the late Louise Seabrook. She was raised by her devoted grandmother, the late Mrs. Florence C. Parker.
Sharon was educated in the Beaufort County Public School System and graduated in 1971. She affirmed her faith in Christ at an early age, was baptized and became a member of the Faith Memorial Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend J.E Johnson. After graduation, she moved to Connecticut, Florida and back to South Carolina. Sharon enjoyed singing and being a member of the Faith Memorial choir. In her spare time, some of her hobbies were photography, crocheting, reading, talking on the phone with her friends, playing cards, and cooking.
While living in South Carolina, Sharon worked for the Beaufort County Schools Department of Transportation and later contracted with Laidlaw public transit. As a skilled and dedicated driver, she drove many routes, but her most joy came from providing transportation for her special needs students. After 17 years she left public transit and became a certified care taker in order to care for her brother Benjamin (Butch) which she did until 2020.
After battling the results of long Covid for 4 years, Sharon J. Gray entered eternal rest on February 6, 2024 at the Azalea Health Center in Augusta, Georgia. She was loved by her family and treasured by friends. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman L. Jenkins, Elvis Jenkins, Jimmie Rivers, and sisters; Beatrice Heyward, Willamina Jenkins, and Elizabeth Simmons.
Her loving memories will be cherished by her two sons, Antonio Jenkins (Jo Ann) of Augusta, GA and Byron Gray (Ebony) of Jacksonville, NC; her four precious grandchildren; Imani C. Jenkins, Ja'quan L. Gray, Ja'meya A. Gray, and Ja'Leah I. Gray; her sisters, Beverly Marshall of Port Royal, SC, Annet Graham of Jacksonville, FL, Carol Jackson (Stuart), of Stafford, VA, Debbie Harris and Judy Watkins both of St. Helena Island, SC; one brother Benjamin "Butch" Seabrook of St. Helena Island, SC; stepmother, Mrs. Bernice Jenkins of St. Helena Island, SC; Goddaughter/Niece, Tonia L. (Bernard) Jackson of California, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
