Sharon Hicks, a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to be with Jesus on January 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Her passing was peaceful, and she entered eternity surrounded by the love she so faithfully gave throughout her life.
Sharon was born on October 9, 1943, in
Paulding, Ohio, and from the beginning her life was marked by a quiet strength and a steadfast heart. She lived with a sincere faith in God, trusting Him in every season, both in joy and in suffering. Her confidence was not in her own strength, but in the promises of the Lord she loved.
Above all earthly roles, Sharon cherished being a mother. Her love was steady, patient, and sacrificial, reflecting the love of Christ in simple, ordinary faithfulness. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the great joy of her life, and she poured herself out for them without reservation. Perhaps nowhere was her love reflected more than when she prepared delicious food for her family. Her cinnamon rolls were legendary, and even after all of her children had grown, she baked them for their families to have on Christmas morning. Most people find it shocking to learn that for nearly 30 years after her kids had moved out on their own, she would prepare a Sunday dinner that everyone would enjoy each week.
She fiercely protected her kids, deeply loved her husband, and was devoted to her friends. She both taught and attended group exercise classes at the Caine Halter YMCA for over 40 years, where she developed deep friendships that lasted to her final days. She is remembered as kind, selfless, and loyal by her friends, and warm, supporting, and loving by her family.
Sharon's faith was lived and gently spoken. She found comfort in Scripture, prayer, and warm fellowship with other believers. Even as her body weakened, her spirit rested in the truth that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
She is survived by her husband, Terry Hicks; children, Annette Pait (Jonathan), David Hicks (Delynda), Daniel Hicks (Erin); sister, Kristy Stone; sisters-in-law, Kathy Spencer and Beverly Spencer; grandchildren, Emma (Drew), Jonathan Jr., Josiah (Arianna), Samantha, Danielle, Jessie; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Rose, and extended family, all of whom were shaped by her love, her example, and her prayers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Spencer, and her brothers, Timothy and Robert Spencer; and her brother-in-law, Ken Stone. Sharon now rejoices in the presence of her Savior.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her gentle tenacity and her unwavering devotion to her family and her God. Her legacy is one of kindness - kindness to the greatest and the least.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon's life and her sure hope in Christ will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Morningside Baptist Church, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with visitation immediately following the service at the church. For those unable to attend in person, her service may be viewed by clicking http://morningside.org/livestream-video.
A private burial will be held at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in
Anderson, SC.
