Sharon Holzapfel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph J Smith Funeral Home Inc on Feb. 24, 2026.
Sharon Ann Holzapfel entered into eternal rest on February 24th, 2026. Sharon lived and loved her own way. She was a fighter, and, with the grace of God, came through many struggles in life and health to have the opportunity to pour another cup of dark roast coffee. Sharon started each day with coffee and prayers for her loved ones. Praying for her family and friends was a very important part of her life. Sharon was proud of the work she did for Imperial Paper and Bagging Company, but her favorite role was being a grandma. She loved playing 4 Kings In A Corner and Rummy and having the winning hand.

Sharon had a big personality. She loved getting dressed up for special occasions, enjoying music, going dancing, and getting a cup of coffee from Perkins or Bobo's over conversation. A few other favorite things were writing, reading a Danielle Steele or James Patterson new release, having the winning BINGO card, and taking a trip to Marshall's. Spending time at the senior center in Mahopac was an opportunity to meet with friends over a meal or to attend an exercise class. She was very proud of her dance recital from her Bronx, NY, senior center days, when her group performed "Fly Me to the Moon" by Frank Sinatra. She loved sharing that she was on YouTube. Being a certified candy striper at Bronx Municipal Hospital in the 60s was a highlight of her teen years. Sharon looked forward to baking the Thanksgiving Turkey and decorating for Christmas. Christmas was her ultimate opportunity to practice her love language of giving gifts and to enjoy the decorations on her tree made by her grandchildren.

Sharon was very proud of her children and grandchildren. We will miss her weather updates, reminding us to bring a jacket and drive carefully.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Friday, February 27th from 4-8PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28th at 11:30AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. Private cremation will follow.
