Sharon Marie Meyer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025.

Born in Thayer, Illinois, Sharon was the daughter of Francis Gaffney and Marie Marsaglia. She graduated from Virden High School in 1965, beginning a life marked by dedication and love for her family.

On June 28, 1969, Sharon married Michael Meyer, in Virden, Illinois. Together they shared 56 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, travel and companionship.

Sharon built a distinguished career with Illinois Bell, starting as a service representative in the business office and rising to the position of Area Manager before her retirement in 1995. Her professionalism and leadership left a lasting impact on colleagues and the company alike.

Beyond her career, Sharon’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of Michelle Meyer of Frisco, Texas, and a devoted grandmother to Timothy Marquess and Grace Marquess. She rarely missed an event, attending skating competitions, golf tournaments, baseball games, band performances, swim meets and dance recitals, always their biggest supporter.

Sharon also shared her talents nationally as an accountant for U.S. Figure Skating but was most known for her love of scrapbooking, quilting, and knitting.

Those who knew Sharon will remember her not only for her talents and dedication, but also for her feisty, bold personality. She was spirited, unafraid to speak her mind, and always ready with a witty remark or a playful challenge. Her daughter Michelle often recalls how Sharon knew just how to motivate her—occasionally placing a friendly bet that if Michelle passed a particular figure-skating test, a new handbag would be the prize. Those handbags remain among Michelle’s most treasured possessions and symbols of her mother’s love, encouragement, and fun-loving spirit.

Sharon leaves behind her husband Michael, daughter Michelle, grandchildren Timothy (fiancé Jenna Bourgeois) and Grace, along with countless friends and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. Her legacy is one of love, strength and commitment.

She will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life is being planned for January 17 in Springfield, Illinois. Details will be provided at a later date.
