Sharon Patterson, 81, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, IL.
She was born on August 22, 1944 in Monmouth, the daughter of Ed and Pauline (Young) Patterson. Sharon was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth High School.
Sharon dedicated many years of her professional life to the telephone company, where she proudly made history as the first Black telephone operator in Monmouth. She later continued her service to the community working for the Saddleback School District in Laguna Miguel, California, as a school bus driver, a role she carried out with care and commitment.
Outside of work, Sharon embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She had a passion for softball and was a talented pitcher, playing for both the Buster Bombers and the Kelly Raiders. A devoted sports fan, she was especially loyal to the Chicago Bears. Sharon was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Monmouth. Above all else, Sharon treasured the time she spent with her family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Sharon is survived by two special nieces, Kelia Patterson and Kimberleigh Nair. She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her sisters-in-law, Mollie Patteson and Sandy Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL. Memorials can be made to the Sharon Patterson Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
