Sharon Schmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 10, 2026.
Sharon Louise (Walker) Schmidt, 82, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse, Kansas, with her sister Charlotte by her side. She was born May 10, 1943, in Garden City, Kansas, to Willard Wesley Walker and Lucille Rebecca (Eichenauer) Walker.

Sharon attended school with her siblings in Pierceville, Kansas. She was known for her compassionate and caring nature and was lovingly regarded by her family as the "mother hen." Though she had no children of her own, Sharon was always willing to help others and look out for those around her. The two loves of her life were her dogs, Mitzi and Precious.

Sharon spent much of her professional life as an executive secretary at Northrop Grumman in California, an aerospace and defense company, where she was respected for her dedication and reliability.

Sharon spent much of her life in California, but returned to Kansas when her mother's health began to fail in order to help care for her. Sharon and her sister Charlotte later operated a cleaning business together and spent much of their time working side by side and participating in church activities.

Sharon cherished time spent with her siblings, extended family, and friends. In her later years, she formed meaningful relationships with the long-term care staff who became an important part of her daily life. She also found joy in crafts, bingo, and expressing her personality through jewelry and makeup.

She is survived by her sisters, Charlotte Newman of Syracuse, Kansas, and Barbara Gibeaut of California; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Darlene Walker, Darrell Walker, and Donald Walker.

Sharon lived with a complex medical history throughout her life and, in keeping with her wishes, chose to donate her body to science. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Sublette, Kansas. The family invites friends and loved ones to share photos and memories in Sharon's honor at WeeksFamilyFuneralHome.com
