Sharon Louise Scott (Salter) was born on July 27, 1954, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Nina Salter (Scott) and Oscar Keaton. She was raised by her mother in a home rooted in love, faith, and community and attended St. Peter Claver Church School, where she developed the compassion and strength that guided her throughout her life.
Sharon continued her education at St. Joseph's Academy before attending Central High School. She later pursued further studies at Technical Vocational Institute, now known as St. Paul College. As a teenager, she began working early, serving as a dispatcher for a Black-owned taxi company-an experience that reflected her strong sense of responsibility and independence.
In the late 1970s, before starting her family, Sharon moved to Los Angeles, California, where she lived for a couple years. She later returned to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she put down roots and began building her family.
Sharon was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose heart knew no limits. She is survived by her loving siblings, Ed Salter and Lynn Salter. Her greatest joy was her children, Janea Scott and Matthew Nelson, whom she loved and supported unconditionally.
Throughout her life, Sharon was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She held many roles over the years, including long-standing service with the Minnesota Department of Revenue. She later worked at the University of Minnesota Dental Department, where she remained until her retirement in 2015.
Her love lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Kaleem, Saffiyah, Jabbar, Shalen, Mahntao (Tao), and Mylena, and her precious great-grandchild, Loki, who will grow up hearing stories of her love and legacy.
Sharon had a generous spirit and a heart full of kindness. She loved cooking for others and sharing meals, exploring new restaurants, watching cooking shows and movies, and never missing her favorite programs, Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right. Her laughter, warmth, and compassion made everyone feel welcome and deeply cared for.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Nina Brown (Scott), and her cherished grandson, Mesai Nelson, along with other loved ones who welcomed her home. Her legacy lives on through her family and all who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind beautiful memories, enduring love, and a spirit that will never fade.
