Sharon Lillian (Verbeten) Suttner, 82, De Pere, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, December 4, 2022. The daughter of William and Coletta (Meulemans) Verbeten was born in Bedford, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1940.
Sharon was one of ten children, and grew up in Greenleaf. She was a graduate of East De Pere High School. Upon graduating, Sharon began working as a bookkeeper at the Red Owl Grocery Store, where she met the love of her life, Terry Suttner.
On October 29, 1960, Sharon and Terry were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Morrison. Together, they raised their three daughters in De Pere.
Sharon was a master seamstress and quilter. From baptismal gowns to Halloween costumes to wedding gowns, Sharon was always sharing her gifts with family and friends. In addition to being a homemaker, she spent 23 years driving Lamers School Bus #209 and over a decade as the City of De Pere Clerk of Court. Above all, Sharon loved spending time with her family. Many summers were spent by the water on Pelican Lake.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 62 years, Terry; daughters Jo Ellen (Jim) Thompson, Mary (Tim) Wallenfang and Alisa (Russ) Gerke; grandchildren, Amanda (Joel) and Ryan Thompson, Adam (Johnny), Emily, Zachery (Liz) and Jacob Wallenfang, Kyla (Anton) Balzar, Brock (Melissa) and Rece Gerke and her two great-grandchildren, Ezden and Zoe.
She is further survived by her siblings, Donna (Jerry) Wall, Mary "Babs" Feller, Doug (Dorothy) Verbeten, Dean (Barbara) Verbeten, Linda (Mike) Hanaway and Bill (Sherry) Verbeten. Also surviving are Joe Zeller, John Derks and Denise Derks; many nieces and nephews; longtime neighbors and special friends Earl and Dorothy Vanden Langenberg; and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Coletta; parents-in-law Alphonse Suttner and Genevieve "Gen" (Eddie) Derks; siblings, Rodney (Anna Jane) Verbeten, Isabel "Bell" (Bill) Shilbauer and Kathryn Zeller; and brothers-in-law Tom (Grace) Suttner and Dave Feller as well as other extended family.
Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Father James Nielson O.Praem. officiating.
A Memorial Mass for Sharon, celebrating our confidence in the promised glory of Eternal Life, will be celebrated with the Suttner family during the Christmas Octave, with Father James Baraniak, O. Praem. presiding. Entombment at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum will follow the Memorial Mass.
