Sharon Wolcott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walter J. Kent Funeral Home - Elmira on Oct. 29, 2025.
Sharon A. Wolcott, age 86, of Veteran, NY. She was born July 7, 1939 in Sayre, PA. She is the daughter of the late Jerome L. and the late Anna G. (Hartz) Murphy. She passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at home peacefully surrounded by her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, LaVerne R. Wolcott Sr., in 2018; as well as brothers in law Duane Wolcott of Athens, PA, Edward Wolcott of ME, and brother in law, Donald Wolcott of VA.
She is survived by her daughter: Rebecca (John) Scheepsma of Elmira Heights, NY and three sons: LaVerne (Wendy) Wolcott Jr. of Horseheads, NY, Kevin (Patricia) Wolcott of Timonium, MD and Dennis Wolcott of Blossburg, PA; grandchildren Kevin Wolcott Jr., Danielle Wolcott, Nicole Wolcott, Tara Dobson, Sabrina (Mike Welch) Martone, Samantha (Chris) Jones, Julie Scheepsma, Lindsay Spallone, Maureen Scheepsma, Mallary Scheepsma, John Scheepsma J, Logan Scheepsma, Dakoda Wolcott, and Cheyenna Wolcott;; great grandchildren Anthony Welch, Aiden Welch, Bryson Edger, Lydia Jones, Faith Wolcott, Austin Jones, Evelyn Scheepsma, Noah Huber, and Joey Spallone; brothers Mike and Tim Murphy of Sayre, PA; brother in law Kenneth Wolcott of Sayre, PA; along with her extended family and many dear friends.
Sharon went to work with IBM out of high school. She married LaVerne R. Wolcott Sr. on November 29, 1958 at Epiphany Church, Sayre, PA., moving to Norfolk, VA, following his military service. She often spoke proudly about their time there and his service to his country. Sharon worked in the Gardner Road School cafeteria later on, and was a long-time communicant of St. Mary Our Mother. The ultimate highlight of her life was her family. Raising her children as a homemaker, to attending any and all events for her grand and great grandchildren, those kids were the cornerstone of her heart. Sharon loved gardening. She had a great talent in crocheting – often creating gifts or personal touches to outfits for her family. Proud of her Irish heritage, she loved any chance to dance an Irish jig. She and LaVerne greatly enjoyed watching the outdoor creatures at home, whether bird watching or feeding the raccoons.
Family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude the members and care team from Schuyler County Hospice, as well as those involved with the Office of the Aging, and Meals on Wheels for the ever present support and care they offered Sharon, and her family.
Private services will be held; Sharon will be laid to rest with her husband on the family plot in Epiphany Cemetery in Sayre, PA.
