Shawn Drake was born May 18,1993 at Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to his beautiful mother, Paris Rose. She was overjoyed with her blue eyed, light skin, blonde hair, and handsome baby boy. Shawn departed this life on January 13, 2025 at the age of 31.
Shawn was the only child for 15 years, which gave him and his mom many years to bond and create that strong mother/son relationship. When his sister Nakhya was born, he poured that same love onto her. Being the only male in the house, he became their provider and protector. Shawn remained that way throughout the rest of his life.
Shawn attended Phillip Murray and Greenfield Elementary schools. He also attended Knoxville Middle School. During his high school years, he attended Allderdice and then transferred to Academy Charter School, where he received his diploma in June of 2010.
Shawn was given the nickname "Booder" as an infant. He came into this world as a "bad butt" and continued his mischievous behavior until he became an adult. His family and friends have countless stories of him "cutting up" and those memories will last a lifetime.
Shawn was involved in midget league football for Homewood Brushton Association. He mostly played defense. One memorable moment is when they played Clairton. One of the players called him "white boy" and that didn't sit too well with him. Next play, Shawn ran 90 yards on them boys and scored a touchdown.
Shawn worked several jobs after high school. He worked at Goodwill, Jiffy Lube, and most recently as a flagger at Supreme Traffic Control for the past 6 years.
Shawn enjoyed being outside. He didn't care about the weather; he would adjust to all the seasons. He loved driving cars (he's been driving since he was 3 years old). As a young child, the guys in the neighborhood would pick him up and let him ride around with them.
Shawn became a father to a handsome baby boy named Kashawn, born on January 16, 2013. From the moment he came into this world, Shawn shifted his focus to being the best father he could be. He was the father to his son that he wanted in his life. He understood that he had to be there for his son and devoted his life to raising him alone. Their relationship was unmatched. In his words he felt that his son was his "happy place".
Shawn was affectionately known as "S sMac". This name was given to him by his Uncle Day Day. The story behind why his unc gave him this name was that he was hyping him up to take a shower and get fresh for the ladies. This name stuck with him for the rest of his life. Whenever he would get dressed and knew he was fly, he would say, "I'm about to F the city up Ma!"
Shawn leaves to continue loving him and cherishing his memory, his mother Paris (P) Rose, his sons, Kashawn Webster and Carlee Little; his sisters, Nakhya Rose, Ciara McMillan, MeShawny McKellar, and India Germany; his brothers, Xavier McKellar, Tyreek Germany, and Paris Minard Jr.; his bonus sister and brother, Ajene Jones and Tone Bone (Mac Boney); his grandmother, Linda Rose (Nana Banana); his godmother, Rashea Germany; his godson, Trey Moore; his aunts, Karen Rose and Enid Green; his uncles, Kevin Rose, Keith Funches, and Olu Young; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, family, and friends.
Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sherry Hornes and Merlin Conley, and his uncles, Steven Drake and Damian (Day Day) Nance.
Shawn will be remembered by his infectious energy and his mild mannered demeanor. We will hold on to those memories until we meet again.
