Shawn Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Ltd. - Vandalia on Mar. 18, 2026.
Shawn Michael Hall, 60, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at home after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Shawn lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and a genuine desire to bring happiness to others.

Shawn was born on March 12, 1966 in Vandalia, Illinois. He spent much of his early childhood near Vera, Illinois, before moving to Charleston, West Virginia in 2000. Throughout his life he worked in many different roles and industries, including McDowell's Full-Service Station, Brockway, and Conagra in Quality Control. He also held management positions with Hardee's and Ticketmaster, and later worked for the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. No matter where he worked, Shawn was known as someone who was always willing to help others.

Outside of work, Shawn enjoyed playing pool, exploring nature, and creating unique jewelry and crafts from stones. He had a special love for animals, especially his cats, which he cared for deeply. Shawn found great joy in seeing others happy and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.

One of Shawn's proudest accomplishments was recently completing the home he had purchased in Vandalia. It was a milestone that meant a great deal to him. Above all else, Shawn simply wanted to be remembered for having a kind heart-and those who knew him will remember him exactly that way.

Shawn is survived by his mother, Peggy Tippitt (preceded in death by stepfather Daniel Hall); his father, Melvin "Bub" Rine and wife Debra; and his siblings Troy Hall and wife Allison, Annette Moore and husband Gordon, Alicia Rine, Tony Rine, Tina Rine, Brent Junior, Brenda Ware and Rachel Flemming. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

He will also be deeply missed by special friends and family including his uncle, Johnny Tippitt and wife Pam; his cousins, Stan Diveley and wife Karen, Shelly Noyes and husband Herb; and dear friends David Harrison, Tracy Tinker and Ron Pauley.

In lieu of flowers, Shawn requested donations be made to The Cattery in Effingham, Illinois. In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Shawn will be cremated and his ashes will be spread over the mountainside at Hawks Nest in West Virginia, a place that held special meaning and memories for him. Shawn's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His kindness, creativity, and generous spirit will never be forgotten.
