Shawn O'Sullivan Obituary

Shawn P. O'Sullivan Sr.
Shawn P. O'Sullivan Sr., of Hamden, passed away on March 5th, 2026,
with his loving family by his side, after a multi-year fight with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. Shawn was born on July 21, 1960, at the former Grace New Haven Hospital, and lived with his family in the Old Irish enclave on Kimberly Ave., in New Haven. Shawn was the son of Lillian LaMorte and his stepfather, Ron LaMorte Sr., and of the late Robert E. O'Sullivan and his stepmother, Ginger O'Sullivan. He was the grandson of the late Harry and Lillian Howe, and Daniel and Theresa O'Sullivan all of Milford, CT. Shawn is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laura O'Sullivan, who never forgot her wedding vows of "to love in sickness and in health". Shawn and Laura met while in college. Shawn is also
survived by his beloved children; his son, Shawn P. O'Sullivan, Jr. and his wife, Alexandra O'Sullivan; and his daughter, Kristen O'Sullivan, who loved and respected him endlessly for his love, support and guidance throughout their lives. He was predeceased by his Irish twin brother, Michael O'Sullivan; and his infant sister, Patricia O'Sullivan. He was also predeceased by his brother in-law, Raul Alcebo; and his beloved in-laws, Jerry and Janet Maturo. Shawn is survived by his brothers, Ron LaMorte Jr. (Caroline), Dan O'Sullivan (Becky), Brian LaMorte; and sisters, Rita Troutman (Steve), Theresa O'Sullivan Ferraro (Tim) and Tracey LaMorte. Shawn is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Gerry Maturo (Mary), Scott Maturo (Christine); and sisters-in-law, Lynette Alcebo (Rob) and Cindi O'Sullivan (Mike). Shawn leaves his nephews, Michael, Robert, Frankie, Matthew, Nicholas, Jackson, David, Joe and Seamus; and his nieces, Melissa, Nicole, Amanda, Natalie, Erin, Kendall, Amelia, Meg, Abbey, Nora, Cora, and Bellamy. Shawn had a long and successful business career, working in sales and sales management, having spent most of the time with Bank of America. Shawn traveled the country, working with some of America's largest corporations. Considered a subject matter expert in the field of credit card processing and electronic payments, Shawn won many awards and accolades over the years. Shawn was often asked to be a speaker at industry functions and events. Shawn was a past board member of the Northeast Acquirers Association. Shawn graduated from Southern Connecticut State university with a bachelor's degree in business economics. Shawn graduated from Amity High School in Woodbridge, where he played offensive tackle on the 1978 class LL state championship football team that was ranked #1 in the state that year; the team was considered one of the best high school teams in the country. Shawn made many lifelong friends from the team and often got together with the boys for beers. A lifelong Republican, he strongly believed in the principles of personal freedom and free markets. Shawn was a College Republican at SCSU, past president of the Greater New Haven Young Republicans, and a past member of the Hamden Republican Town Committee. Shawn was a delegate to the 1991 state Republican convention. He served as an assistant register of voters in Hamden; was elected to the Hamden Board of Education and is a former justice of the peace. Shawn was a past member of the Hamden Rotary Club as well as The Ancient Order of Hibernians-JFK division in Bridgeport, where he held the honor of Major Degree. He was proud of being an Irishman and enjoyed Irish history; and like a good Irishman, Shawn had an engaging sense of humor, and his storytelling was always enhanced with a good dose of the blarney.
The O'Sullivan family would like to thank Chris Girdley, Shawn's dedicated caregiver, whom he affectionately referred to as his "bodyguard". Chris' amazing dedication, loyalty, patience and kindness will never be forgotten by the family.
The visiting hours will be on Monday, March 9th, from 4 to 7 P.M. at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 10th, at 10 A.M. at St. Paul VI Parish at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, in Hamden. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Washington Avenue, in Hamden. DANIEL E MILLER

March 7, 2026

Hi this is Daniel Miller, Shawn O'Sullivan's cousin in South Carolina. I am very sorry to hear about Shawn's passing. My condolences to Shawn's Mother and stepfather as well as his siblings and nephews and nieces and other extended family. In my younger days my parents always took us to Connecticut to visit our grandparents and I always got to visit with Shawn and his brother and my other cousin Mike. I enjoyed many childhood and young adult memories with Shawn such as sailing on his Dad's Sunfish sailboat and going to the pubs in New Haven. Saint Patrick's Day was a really great time. I can't begin to count all the fun times. I will miss Shawn and I know he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. So long my cousin. I look forward to seeing you in the next lifetime. Say hello to all of the O'Sullivan family and to my parents, my brother, and my baby boy Adam for me please.
