Shawn O’Shea Patrick
September 20, 1965 – August 16, 2009
Shawn died at the age of 43. He was the beloved son of Neva Varner of Tulsa, OK and Rodrick O’Shea Patrick of Weatherford, TX and the step-son of James Varner of Tulsa. He had two beautiful sons, Mills and Mason Patrick, of Fredericksburg, TX, two brothers, Ron Horn of Tulsa, Steven Horn of Plano, TX, and sister, Tracey Nelson of Cypress, TX, half brother, Joe Patrick, step sister, Laurie Varner-Gantner of Phoenix, AZ and step brother, James G. Varner of Bend, OR, eight nieces and nephews, Sarah, Mallory, Tanner, Riley, Stephanie, Hayley, Skyler and Connor, aunts Vera Bean of Athens, OH, Billie Mayes of Borger, TX, Marguerite Mayes of Laural, MT and uncle Don Mayes of Kingfisher, OK.
Shawn was the baby not only of his immediate family but of his mother’s family. He the 34th grandchild of his maternal grandmother, Bertha Mayes. Shawn attended Grissom Elementary, Thoreau Jr. High, and Memorial High Schools of Tulsa and graduated with the infamous class of 1983 earning honorable mention all state honors as a linebacker of the Memorial Chargers district champions. He attended the University of Oklahoma and pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After college he was an outstanding manufacturer’s representative in the western retail industry. Throughout his sales career he represented many of the major brands of western attire and was instrumental in the fashion design of several major brands we shop today, including Cruel Girl jeans and Cinch shirts. Prior to his untimely death he had started his own designer boot manufacturing company, Johnny Ringo Boots. “Johnny Ringo - the original American Outlaw!” Shawn was thoroughly Western from his dress style to his activities. He participated in team roping events and was a member of the United States Team Roping Association. As he followed rodeos throughout Texas and Oklahoma you could almost hear George Strait in the background singing Amarillo by Morning!
Shawn was first and foremost a dad. He had said that “anybody can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.” Although divorced, he never missed a chance to be with his boys and take them to their baseball and football games and to events of all kinds. We were not surprised to hear long stories of what world class athletes his boys were and what truly outstanding children they were in every respect. Shawn loved being a dad.
Colorful stories of our beloved Shea Pat abound, whether he was sneaking off on weekends to participate in rodeo bulldogging events, toilet papering friends houses, or just organizing a party. It seems almost every friend and family member has Shawn O stories to recall with great affection. Please continue that storytelling by signing on to his guest book mentioned below.
Shawn was a survivor. He survived cancer with major surgery in his back followed by chemotherapy. He survived alcohol and drug addiction through recovery and rehab. And he was a friend and advocate of all he met who were fellow survivors.
More than a salesman, more than an athlete, more than a businessman and designer, and more than a survivor, Shawn was a lover of people - of his children - of his family - and of his friends. Being part of a very large family with 34 cousins and being in the home of a special needs uncle, Shawn accepted all people just as they were without prejudice. Shawn’s love of people knew no bounds and he lit up a room with his optimism and joy and he lit up relationships that lasted for a lifetime. Heaven will have a little more orneriness, fun and joy because he is there, and we who loved him will not be able to fill the void in our lives because our beloved Shawn is no longer with us.
“Fly with the Angels, Shawn”.

Wow, I can't even begin to type...I met you in person on Aug 4, 2009 and we were in touch and then nothing....I don't know why I was cleaning out emails and came across those we had shared and I thought I wonder how his "boot" business is and decided to google. I am speechless... As I write this I know what your mother is feeling with your loss. I lost my own son in August of last year. The year anniversary of his death approaches. I remember our sharing pictures of our children. Well, I hope you have met my son up in Heaven. Be blessed my dear friend....my heart is heavy knowing you aren't on earth in physical presence with your shining personality...in the very short time we knew each other....you made me smile.

You continue to be a part of my life. Just last night I told the story of us tp'ing Shelly Huddlestons house and you yelling out my name before taking off running and diving into Jim's car headfirst to get away from Mr. Huddleston. To this day some of my favorite times were with you! Rest well, my friend.

Yesterday I was in OKC and was flipping through an apartment guide while waiting on a friend. I opened the booklet and it directly went to Persimmon Square...and it looked very familiar to me...then I realized it was the first place that you and I called 'home' together. I love when things pop out at me and remind me of the time we had together. You are forever in my heart.
