Mr. Shawn Lamons Shoats was born on October 7, 1970, to Deborah Shoats-Lindsey and Arthur Maddox, Jr., in Griffin, Georgia. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and great friend. He was a member of Free For All Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. Mr. Shawn Lamons Shoats was a graduate of Griffin High School, where he was a member of Griffin High School Band of Gold.
Mr. Shawn Lamons Shoats met the love of his life, Ms. Tanya Slaughter, his forever sweetheart. They were married for 25 wonderful blessed years. Their union was blessed with 3 children. Shawn was an amazing father to Mignon Shoats, La'Darius "Dee" Shoats, and Cameron "Cam" Shoats. Shawn loved the Atlanta Falcons, cooking, and spending time with his family. You could often find him sitting in his recliner enjoying football on Sunday surrounded by family.
Shawn was a hardworking and dedicated man. He started his career in logistics. He had a passion for working with children, and people, so he began to work for Spalding County Parks & Recreation. Shawn also worked as a Correctional Officer for the Spalding County Correctional Institute. He worked part-time as a Security Guard with DMS Security. Shawn was also a Chef at Uncle Bobby's Wings and Beer for 8 years. His most recent employment was with the Griffin Spalding County Schools Transportation Department. Shawn wore many hats, and his official title was a Route Supervisor. Shawn worked for GSCS Transportation Department for 12 years. He was a man with great wisdom and his loved ones have memories that they will cherish forever.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Mr. Shawn Lamons Shoats departed this life peacefully into the arms of Jesus, at Emory St. Joseph Hospital with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mack Shoats, Sr., and Daisy "Momma Shoats" Shoats; his paternal grandparents, Arthur Maddox, Sr., and Jewell Jackson-Maddox; his aunt, Joyce Mullins; his uncle, Mack Shoats, Jr., and his nephew, Gideon "Gid" Mays.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Mrs. Tanya Shoats; his mother, Deborah Shoats-Lindsey, his father, Arthur Maddox, Jr.; Pop, Robert Lindsey; his 3 children, Mignon Shoats, La'Darius "Dee" Shoats, and Cameron "Cam" Shoats; sister, Chaketa (Trayton) Maddox-Head; brother, Rashard (Shay) Shoats; sisters-in-law, LeShonda Berry, Kimberly Shannon, and Milicent Shannonl brother-in-law, Johnathan Shannon; mother-in-law, Christine Berry-Horton; father-in-law, Johnny Shannon, Sr., and a gost of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, form 4:00 Pm - 6:00 PM at Burden's Funeral Home. Service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Assembly of God Church located at 200 W. McIntosh Road in Griffin. The body will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to the service hour. Pastor Gary Akins is the Eulogist.
