We gather to remember and celebrate the remarkable and spirited life of Shawn Wells, who was born in Denver, CO, on April 7, 1965, and left us too soon on December 4, 2024. There was never a dull moment with Shawn, our witty and loving soul, who was known far and wide for his supportive and thoughtful nature. He had a knack for making everyone around him feel special and cherished. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world." And indeed, to many of us, Shawn was the world.
A resident of Aurora, Colorado, He was a man of varied passions. The roar of a car engine, the thrill of an Alabama football game, the utility of the latest gadget, or the quiet beauty of flower planting in spring, all brought joy to his heart. He was a supportive mentor, a devoted watcher of his girls' sports games, a collector of fine wines, whiskeys, and bourbons, and an early bird gym enthusiast. His dedication to an orderly home was legendary, and his time on the USS Archerfish (SSN678) left an indelible mark on his life.
Shawn leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife Kathy, daughter Lauren (Coleman) Sparks, granddaughters Winnie and Wells Sparks, daughter Meghan (Sheldon) Miller, sister Shannon (John) Morgione, sister Mandi (Bernie) Gard, nephew Scott Thomas, nephew Christopher (Sierra) Thomas, niece Madi (Rod) English, niece Hannah (Boone) Barton, nephew Jack Gard, aunt Eileen (Dick) del Etoille, cousins Tracy Spencer (Dennis Preuss), and Trudy (Mike) Kruise and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lory and Geraldine Wells, and nephew Brody Gard.
We are requesting that those who are attending the services wear pink, in honor of Shawn and his favorite color!
A funeral service will be held at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 1991 South Oneida Street, Denver, Colorado, 80224 on Wednesday, 11 Dec 2024 at 11:00 am MST, followed by a committal service with military honors at Fort Logan Staging Area B, Utah Street, Denver, Colorado, 80236 at 1:30 pm MST.
A reception to follow at Covenant Church 401 West Mineral Ave, Littleton, Colorado, 80120.
In the spirit of Shawn's love for stories and shared memories, we encourage you to visit his memorial page. Please feel free to leave your fondest memories of Shawn, and upload photos that capture the essence of this extraordinary man. His story is not just in the life he lived, but also in the lives he touched. Let's continue to celebrate Shawn, just as he celebrated each one of us.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Jude in remembrance of Uncle Shawn and in honor of Brody Gard.
