Shawtaye McCauley was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 14, 1980, to Michelle McCauley. She peacefully departed this world on July 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love that touched everyone she knew. Shawtaye attended Public School 309, Junior High School 57, and graduated from Murray Bergtraum High School. She then furthered her education at Mohawk Valley Community College.
After college, Shawtaye returned to her beloved Brooklyn and began her career at Zales. Her natural charisma and passion for jewelry made her a star in this role. On June 15, 2010, Shawtaye welcomed her precious son, Brendan Buntin, into the world. To provide him with the best opportunities, she bravely moved to Syracuse, New York. It was in Syracuse that Shawtaye found a deeper spiritual connection, dedicating her life to Christ. She was baptized and became a cherished member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, finding joy in retreats and exploring her faith.
In Syracuse, Shawtaye flourished both personally and professionally. She honed her business skills and became known affectionately as "the tax lady". She ran an independent tax practice with a passion for serving her community, treating her clients as more than just business associates- they were special to her.
During the global pandemic, Shawtaye was blessed with the arrival of twins, Mason and Melia Lane, on September 9, 2020. She loved planning elaborate birthday celebrations, dressing her family in matching outfits, and taking them on unforgettable vacations, especially to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean. Weekends were a time of joy, filled with trips to water parks, zoos, karate, and exploring various restaurants, as she made sure her children explored a rich tapestry of cultures and cuisines.
Shawtaye was a confident, stylish, and beautiful woman who took pride in her appearance. She was a devout mother, outgoing, funny, and witty, with a love for music. She was incredibly generous and selfless, always giving from the heart without expecting anything in return and prioritizing the needs of others. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shawtaye is preceded in death by her son Mason Lane, as well as her uncle Leonard Hires and is survived by her children, Brandan Buntin, Melia Lane; her mother, Michelle; her siblings, Shawn, Milique, Lakia, Fertia, Wayman; her aunt/mother figure, Barbara; her nieces, Lexi, Kamaya; her nephews, Krzysztof, Mariusz, Gabryjel, Chase, Bryce; her great nephew, Adrian; her God Mother, Janet; her Syracuse family, a host of adopted nieces/nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Services were held Friday, August 2nd at Carter Funeral Home Inc., 1604 Grant Blvd, Syracuse, New York 13208.
