Sheila Clancy Obituary

Sheila J. Clancy
September 23, 1944 - January 5, 2025
Sheila (Papallo) Clancy, 80, of Meriden, passed away on January 5, 2025, at Midstate Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Meriden on September 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Louise and Louis Papallo. Sheila grew up on Eaton Avenue in Meriden and lived in Wallingford for 30 years before moving to Vero Beach, Florida. She returned to Wallingford in 2022. Sheila attended college in New Rochelle with her lifelong friend, Rosalie Hakker. Sheila was an Adult Probation Officer for the State of Connecticut from 1974 until her retirement.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband, Robert, whom she married on October 10, 1964. Sheila and Bob were enthusiastic travelers, exploring many destinations in North America and Europe. Both Sheila and Bob were of Irish and Italian descent; they visited their grandparents' home villages in Tuscany, Italy, and counties Clare and Cork, Ireland-Ireland being Sheila's favorite "place in the heart." They loved adventures, whether hiking a portion of the Camino de Santiago Trail in Spain or driving their Airstream RV through all the western states and Canada. They spent their summers in Asheville, NC.
Sheila was a keen and competitive bicyclist and in 1990 placed 2nd in the Wallingford Community Race, a 20k road race. She was passionate about politics, animal rights, public broadcasting, and national parks, all of which she supported charitably. She was a dedicated organizer for the Democratic Party.
Sheila was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Papallo, and sister, Nancy Parisi. Sheila is survived by her nephew, James Parisi; nieces, Jane Lemire and Lisa Papallo; brother-in-law, Jack Clancy, and his wife, Patty; and her sister-in-law, Doreen Roddy. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews and their children.
Sheila's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses, aides, and support staff at The Village at Kensington Place in Meriden, as well as to the staff at Midstate Medical Center for the devoted and loving care given to Sheila.
Funeral services and burial will be private with arrangements under the direction of John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 For online condolences, visit jferryfh.com
