Sheila D'Onofrio, age 96, passed away peacefully January 11, 2026, in her home in Seminole, Florida. Born in 1929, in Belfast Northern Ireland to Stewart & Jessie (Watson) McVeigh. She grew up in the seaside town of Bangor, County Down, Ireland along with her younger sister. She attended nursing school in England, and worked as a registered nurse in Cornwall, England with soldiers from the war, and as a midwife in Scotland.She traveled with a friend on the Queen Elizabeth ship to Chicago, IL USA to work at Edgewater hospital. She and (the late) Eugene D'Onofrio met, fell in love and were married in 1955. Together they lovingly raised 7 children. She continued working as a nurse part time overnights while the children were younger and became a Critical Care Registered Nurse.

Native of Belfast, Northern Ireland; longtime resident of Chicago, Addison and Villa Park; currently of Seminole, FL; beloved wife of the late Eugene; loving mother of Eugene (Debra), Patricia (the late Edward) Caron, Dennis (Anne), Sheila (the late Bob) Kalteux, Robert (Brenda) and the late Richard (the late Jackie) and the late Paul (Evelyn); proud grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of 16; dear sister of the late Maureen (the late Ed) Moore; aunt of many.

Visitation Friday, January 23, 2026, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 24, 2026, 8:00 a.m. until time of prayers 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. Aunt Sheila was such a lovely person. We loved her and especially enjoyed the times we saw her and talked with her at the family picnics. Her life was a gift. Prayers for and hugs to all of our D'Onofrio cousins.
