Sheila June (Mahan) Mandic was born in Covington, Kentucky, on March 27, 1954, to William "Bill" Mahan and Marjorie Aaserude. Sheila passed away on June 20, 2025, at home in
Chapman, Kansas, while in hospice care due to COPD/emphysema, pneumonia, and complications involving her liver. All she wanted was to leave the nursing home and hospital to come home and pass away surrounded by most of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Grant Hafley; her brother, William "Paul" Mahan; and her sisters, Mary and Kathy Mahan. She is survived by her brothers Phil Mahan and Mark Mahan (wife Susie); her sister Marcella (Mahan) Olding; and her brother Stephen Mahan. She is also survived by her husband, Christopher Mandic; daughter Andrea Hengemuhle (fiancé Joseph Priester) and Andrea's children Rachel (husband Nathan) and their child William Garrison, and son Ryan Hengemuhle; daughter Melonie (husband John Neadow) and their children Katherine (husband Kyle Faner), Sarah (husband William Boucher) and their children Noah and Zoey, and daughter Isabelle Neadow; and son William "Dan" Mandic (wife Theresa) and their children Ethan, Raegan, Triston, Madeline, and Liam "Nemo" Mandic.
Sheila is also survived by her sisters-in-law Kathleen (husband David), Lori (husband Joe – the family Godfather), her brother-in-law Kevin (wife Teri) Mandic and sister in law Jana Mandic, along with too many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews to mention-but she loved them all.
Sheila was a member of the Civil Air Patrol as a youth and attended Ludlow, Kentucky schools and Miller-Motte Business College in Clarksville, Tennessee.
She worked as a waitress, at a preschool, operated a daycare, served as a teacher's aide, and after college, worked as a Certified Medical Assistant for 20 years. She retired following a battle with breast cancer but continued to give back, serving as a volunteer aide for hospice.
She was an Army wife for 24 years, which often made her not only a mother but the head of the household during her husband's deployments.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and affectionately called them all "her peanuts."
She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, reading, sewing, crocheting, and watching the ID and Cooking channels. She adored her many pets over the years and was rarely without one (or two) in the home.
Sheila was always active in the Catholic Church, participating in women's groups, volunteering, and singing in the choir until COPD/emphysema made it too difficult.
She organized many Mahan family reunions in Kentucky and annually hosted an Easter celebration at her home filled with food, games, and family fun.
She loved her family and her Savior. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 26, 2025 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Chapman. Rosary will be recited before Mass at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Chapman. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Chapman from 7PM-8PM.
