Shelby C. Bates, 64, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Kadema Rehab and Nursing Home in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
Born in Reading Pennsylvania, Shelby was the son of Billy Toalton and Louise Bates.
He graduated from Reading High School and had retired from the Barta Transportation Station in Reading where he worked in the maintenance department.
Shelby was a great baseball player, he enjoyed ping-pong and riding his bike. He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help people. Family and friends spoke of him always helping neighbors and anyone in need. Shelby also loved music. He could 'name that tune' in three beats and gave you the artist name and a little history about them.
He is survived by his Aunt Thelma Bates of Leesport, PA., his sister Chrislyn Richardson, husband William of Alabama, Sherwon Bates, spouse Misty in Wilson Township, Sabrina Key, husband Lamar of Reading Pa and brother Wynwood Bates, wife Elizabeth. Sinking Spring PA and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by Louise Bates, Billy Toalton, and Tracy Bates.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6 at the Harris Funeral Home, 222 N. Front Street, Reading, Pa., The viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Repass will follow from 2:00 until 430 pm
