Shelby Dooley Gomez

Shelby Jean Dooley Gomez passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Gonzales, Louisiana at the age of 82. She was born October 2, 1942, in Lessley, Mississippi to Robert L. Dooley Jr. and Selma McKey Dooley.

Shelby was a caregiver for children for most of her life. She loved gardening and decorating her home for Christmas. She adored and doted on her three grandsons.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, David S. Gomez; her parents, Robert L. Dooley Jr. and Selma McKey Dooley; and her brothers, Frank Lea and Robert L. Dooley III.

Shelby is survived by her son, Gary Gomez and his wife, Shelley; her sisters, Clytie Dooley Taylor, Lora Mae Dooley Anderson and Virginia Dooley Brumfield; her brothers, Thomas Dooley and George Edward Dooley; and her grandsons, Reid Alan Gomez, Gabe Michael Gomez and Grant David Gomez.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A Visitation will take place at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. A reception will be held in the Legacy Room at the funeral home following the burial.
