Shelby Elaine Allen Hardy, 64, of Mount Airy, passed away early Sunday morning, July 9, 2023. Mrs. Hardy was born Feb. 24, 1959, in Patrick County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Latney Gid and Opal Elizabeth Bowman Allen. Elaine was a devoted homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Adina and Ricky Hawks of Mount Airy; two sons, Travis Dwayne Hardy and A.J. Hardy and his better half, Emily Newman, all of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and her husband, Morgan and Tyler Hull of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Shepherd James Hull of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Terry Smith of Mount Airy; a sister and best friend, Vicky Allen of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law and chosen sisters, Shirley Allen and Melody Allen, both of Mount Airy; and several, special nieces and nephews, especially Elizabeth Smith and Dawn, Coy, and Levi Edwards. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Vestal Hollingsworth Hardy Jr.; two sisters, Betty Pruitt and Patricia Childress; and four brothers, Roger Allen, Ronnie Allen, Gary Allen, and Randy Allen. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 13, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
