Sheldon Sherman Obituary

Sherman Sheldon "Sherm" April 21, 1930 - May 5, 2025 Age 95, passed away on May 5, 2025. Born April 21, 1930, in Kingston, NY, he spent his early childhood on St. Marks Avenue in Brooklyn before moving at age 10 to Huntingdon, PA - a rural, small-town American community that deeply shaped his values and lifelong friendships. A proud graduate of Huntingdon High School, Sherm enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, where he assisted recovering soldiers at a medical facility. After his service, he began college at Juniata College and then graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. Sherm moved to Philadelphia to begin his professional career as a scientist at Smith, Kline, and French Laboratories. He continued his education to earn his Master's degree in pharmacology while working in pharmaceutical research until his retirement in 1986. He and his wife, Marsha, then relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In retirement, he spent time handcrafting items sold at local flea markets and craft fairs. He also mastered the ability to fix anything, albeit temporarily, with epoxy. An avid sports enthusiast, Sherm eagerly awaited the commencement of baseball and football seasons each year, where he tirelessly rooted for his alma mater Penn State. He also thoroughly enjoyed thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing with a keen eye towards selecting winners through careful analysis and observation. He was known as an affable, honest, down to earth, dependable, and generous friend, husband, and father. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marsha, and daughters, Sharon, Carol and Claire. Those who knew Sherm will remember him for bringing out the best in people via his positive influence, selflessness, and the ability to make people smile and laugh. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him well and others who may have briefly crossed his path.

A meaningful legacy isn't always written in bold headlines. Often, it's the quiet, thoughtful actions that echo in the hearts of others.

The memories we hold, bring warmth to the heart.

Sheldon Sherman, known to me as Grandpop, was one of the kindest and most understanding lero 's I´ve ever known. He always had the best stories and a warm presence that made everyone feel at home. What I loved most was how willing he was to do anything just to spend time with me-whether it was fishing, playing baseball, or sharing ice cream. He made every moment feel special, and I´ll always cherish the time we had together.

When we visited my aunt in Bodega Bay, grandpop insisted on going down to the beach ,
despite the house being on top of a cliff with many stairs to descend, Grandpop, at 88, hopped out of chair and began the trek. We laughed the entire way down, well technically only halfway down before we turned back, and we had to carry grandpop back up the rocky steps while grandpop insisted that he could do it himself. Yes grandpop was as stubborn as they come. my grandpop was extra special and will be missed. my memories of grandpop will stay with me for life.

Evelyn remembers Shelly's kindness to her when she was a young lady, and I remember his kindness after I married Evelyn. We thank God for such a brother-in-law.

Sheldon Sherman was my father-in-law. Simply put, he was just a great, smart and funny guy. We bonded over our love of sports, particularly football. Mr. Sherman and I could literally talk about football for hours on end. When I asked my wife to marry me, I thought that it was only appropriate for me to ask Mr. Sherman if I could have her hand in marriage. He said. " take both hands." he was a man who loved his food. But it was simple food. I have great memories of going to the Mule Barn in Albuquerque, and Mr. Sherman insisting that I order Huevos rancheros. We all just had a great time whenever we went out there to see him. I miss him, but I am also comforted by great memories of a wonderful guy.

Dad, The commitment to the people in your life (family, co-workers, friends, and even acquaintances) has been the yardstick by which I measure relationships with others. Your example will be carried through your daughters and their sons and onto future generations... YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!

Ahhh I am so so sorry for all of you.
I never met him and feel like I did through my friendship with Sharon......one of my favorite people on this planet I know she got her wit, humor, joy and down to earthness from Sherm.

When I think about you dad
I will always remember
All the cruises on the bed
And the dreaded beard that followed
There's a special place in my heart
That only you can own
Miss you, today, tomorrow and everyday
Love you to the moon and back
Your daughter,
Carol
