Shellie D. Shady, age 62, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Born in Muskegon on July 27, 1963, to J. Raymond and Shirley (Bergman) Baker, Shellie was a lifelong resident of the area. Early in her career, Shellie held various jobs before finding her professional home at Meijer. Over the course of 36 years, she embraced many roles-including manager, store secretary, and trainer-and played a key part in opening numerous new store locations. Shellie had a wide array of interests that brought her joy: birdwatching, gardening, scenic drives along Lake Michigan, and cherished Wednesday night boat rides. She loved visiting the Muskegon Farmer's Market on Saturdays, relaxing in her chair with her rainbow blankie, playing dominoes and cards, and enjoying kiddie turtle sundaes from Frosty Oasis. Searching for the coveted Petosky Stones or beach glass was also an enjoyable time. Her favorite getaways included family camping trips to Ludington State Park and Timberline Campground, where she took great pleasure in starting the campfire, sweeping the rug, organizing and tending to every detail. If Shellie was involved, you could count on things being perfectly planned and beautifully arranged. On July 16, 1988, Shellie married Kenneth Shady at Lakeside Baptist Church in Muskegon, beginning a journey marked by love, laughter, and countless shared memories. She was often Ken's "filter"-a role she embraced with humor and heart. Shellie was a dedicated member of Lakeside Baptist Church for many years, serving in a number of capacities with the Youth Group or as a Trustee. Together with her husband, Pastor Ken, they later brought their ministry to Grand Haven Gospel Chapel, where she continued to serve faithfully by his side. Shellie wholeheartedly served as the AWANA Commander introducing kids to Jesus and nurturing and guiding children in their spiritual growth. Shellie is survived by her beloved husband, Ken; their two children, Justin (Kathryn) Shady and Nicole (Tanner) Opple; and her treasured granddaughters, Cecelia and Hazel, who lovingly called her "Grammie". She also leaves behind six siblings: Mark (Lori) Baker, Steven (Barb) Baker, Greg (Gayle) Baker, Lynn (Jerry) Micketti, Paul (Lonnie) Kison, and David Kison; along with many dear nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her father, J. Raymond Baker; her mother, Shirley Baker Kison; and her stepfather, John Kison. A Celebration of Shellie's Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Pastor Eric Strattan officiating. Visitation with the family will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM also at The Lee Chapel. Memorial Contribution to Relay For Life in Shellie's name will be appreciated. To share memories or leave a message for the family, please visit https://www.sytsemafh.com.
