Shelly Diane Widau, a beacon of love and warmth, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on September 3, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, Shelly's generous spirit and nurturing nature touched the lives of everyone who crossed her path.

Shelly dedicated her career to the field of medical technology, beginning as a Med Tech at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. She then traveled with her job as a Med Tech Analyst. Her journey led her to serve as a substitute teacher at Mission Valley, where she found joy in both her work and in spending time with her beloved daughters, Maddie and Kiki. Shelly later took on the role of supervisor in the lab at St. Francis, proving herself a leader and mentor within her field. She was a proud member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, a testament to her commitment to her profession. Living in Kansas City, Shelly found joy in bodybuilding and attended numerous competitions. Through her Career, her passions, and her family, Shelly lived a life marked by dedication, strength and love. 

Those who were fortunate enough to know Shelly will always remember her as the best hugger and the most generous person they have ever met. Her warmth was unmatched, and her love for her family was profound. Shelly wore many hats, becoming a second mom to countless others who sought her kindness and support. She cherished each moment spent with her little dog Harlie, who was lovingly named after her grandpa, and her heart overflowed with love for all sports, where she found joy and excitement.

An avid lover of the beach and a passionate reader, Shelly took pride in her home, crafting a haven filled with love for her family. Her vibrant personality shone through her caring and sweet demeanor, often bringing laughter and a touch of sass to every gathering. She remained a constant source of encouragement and love, making each moment spent together a cherished memory.

Shelly leaves behind a loving family, including her husband, Tim Widau, and her cherished daughters, Maddie and Kiki Widau. She is also survived by her beloved mother, Zelda Moran; sisters Brenda (and Tom Rutledge), Tracy (and Brady Brown with kids Tamar, Cassius, Landen), and Tara Bryan (with kids Lucy, Sam, Annie); sister and brother in law Tammy and Rick Schmidt along with a host of adoring nieces and nephews—Cole (and Megan Rutledge, with kids Stoney and Peyton), Jess (and Sarah Rutledge with son Ty). Kassie Posladek (and Sam with kids Evelyn, Audrey, Graham and Aveire) Tanner Schmidt (and Adriana with kids Teagan and Tucker) and Skyler Schmidt. Additionally, Shelly will be remembered fondly by her great nephew, Malakai, and great niece, Luna.

Shelly was preceded in death by her father, Alvin, as well as her mother-in-law, Betty Widau, and father-in-law, Bob Widau, Grandparents Louis and Lena Ginter, and Betty and Harley “Jiggs’ Moran, who have surely welcomed her with open arms in the embrace of eternity.

A funeral service celebrating Shelly's life will be held at Mission Valley High School in Eskridge, Kansas, on October 4, 2025, commencing at 10 a.m., followed by an interment service at 11 a.m. at the Dover Cemetery. A celebration of life/visitation at Lake Wabaunsee Fire House will be at Noon.

Memorial contributions in Shelly’s memory may be made to either the Maisie DeVore Community Pool or to Wabaunsee County Fire District #5 and may be sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St Mary’s, KS 66536.

As we reflect on the remarkable life of Shelly Diane Widau, we will carry her spirit within us—in every hug, in every act of kindness, and in every moment spent loving and cherishing family. Her legacy of love will forever resonate in our hearts.
