Shemaril Gena Tann was born on the warm day of June 14, 1969, in Paterson, NJ. She was born to the late Lucy Marie Leary and Jessie Robert Tann.
Shemaril received her education through the Paterson Public School System, attending Eastside High School. Driven by her passion for helping others, she pursued further studies to become a home health aide, leaving a vibrant mark on everyone she touched.
Shemaril began her career as a home health aide, where she made a meaningful difference in the lives of those she assisted. After a fulfilling time in that role, she transitioned to a new path as a "top-flight" security guard at the Center City Mall, where she took her job very seriously and was recognized for her outstanding dedication, commitment, and exemplary service.
Shemaril kept herself busy with her many passions. She was known as the go-to person for braiding hair-if you needed a fresh look, she was the one to call. She had a passion for shopping and listening to music, especially from the 80s and 90s. In the kitchen, she enjoyed cooking, and her evenings were spent watching wrestling. Every Monday and Friday night, she was in front of the TV. She most definitely enjoyed a good card game. She also loved indulging in Lifetime movies and Tubi, where she'd often joke that she could find a hidden gem or two. Don't get her started on a new game on her phone, especially if it's a puzzle or coloring game! Her favorite colors were black and white, which reflected her classic style.
Shemaril's biggest love was for her family. She cherished every moment spent with them, always finding joy in their company, especially with her grandchildren. Her children, Jaquan and Kavesha, were the lights of her life. She created lasting memories filled with love and warmth. Family was her heart, and she treasured those connections above all else.
On Monday April 28, 2025, Shemaril peacefully answered the call to her eternal home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Robert Tann; her mother, Lucy Marie Leary; seven aunts, Salony Perry, Valerie Leary, Shirley Leary, Bonnie Tann, Beatrice Leary, Janice Hall, Gracie Tann, Peggy Ann Leary; two uncles Nathan Tann, Willie Tann; & lifelong friend, John Anthony Nero.
Shemaril leaves to cherish her memories to her beloved son and daughter who she loved unconditionally, Jaquan and Kavesha Tann both of Paterson, S.T; one son-in-law,Justin Crawford; two granddaughters, Jaslyn and Kailyn Crawford, one grandson, Jacee Tann; one godsister, Pinky Leary of Paterson, NJ; one goddaughter, Jahmera Williams and one godson, Jermaine Swindell both of Paterson, NJ; five aunts, Barbara Leary and Barbara Riley both of Paterson, NJ; Cathy Wilkins, Georgia Leary, and Izola Boone all of Aulander, NC; two uncles, Clyde Leary of Paterson, NJ & James Leary of Aulander, NC; and two dear friends, who were like sisters to her, Valerie Leary-Watson and Jeanette Taylor both of Paterson, NJ and a host of cousins and friends.
