Sherianne Sorem

Sherianne Marie Sorem, age 81, of Nevada, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, surrounded by loved ones.

A private family graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown with an informal Celebration of Life held Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cubbies on Main located at 1220 6th Street in Nevada.

She was born on March 3, 1944, in State Center, Iowa, to Frederick A. Weuve Jr. and Dorothy Marie (Greiner) Weuve. Sherri was raised and educated in Story County, Iowa, graduating with the Nevada High School Class of 1962. On June 9, 1968, she was united in marriage to Richard F. Legg in Minnesota. They made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their two children, Rick and Tanya.

Before becoming a mother, Sherri was employed at Marshalltown Manufacturing. Then while raising her children, she provided in-home daycare and enjoyed her bowling league. Upon Dick's retirement, they moved to Holiday Lake, where she loved being a homemaker, fishing with family, gardening, and the quiet lake life.

After Dick's passing in 1993, Sherri returned to Nevada to be closer to her parents. She married Ronald Sorem on July 11, 1997. Sherri later became employed at Fareway Grocery, where she worked for over 25 years. She retired to spend more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sherri and Ron also took pleasure in their bowling leagues and traveling throughout the U.S.

Sherri was active in her community, volunteering at the Harmony Closet and later at the Senior Center, where she also served on the board. She especially liked her weekly coffee chats and card playing, where she made many lasting friendships. She loved attending great-grandchildren's events, an annual Hawkeye football game with close friends, and a yearly bus trip to Branson, Missouri.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ron Sorem; her children, Rick (Paige) Legg and Tanya Castillo; stepdaughters, Barb (Garry) Pfantz and Jan (John) Brandt; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; siblings, Dennis Weuve and LuAnn (Lynn) Heintz.

Sherri was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dick; her brother, Ronald Weuve; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Weuve and Deloris Weuve; and her stepdaughter, Nadine Popp.

The family would like to thank the Iowa River Hospice staff for the excellent care they provided for Sherri.
