Sherlan Calvin, 78, of Willmar, died Monday, July 7th at J.A. Wedum Hospice in Brooklyn Park. His funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 16th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be at Bethany Reformed Cemetery in Clara City. www.hafh.org
Sherlan "Cal" Clarence Calvin was born on July 16, 1946 in Willmar, the son of Clarence and Esther (Godfrey) Calvin of Pennock. He went to grade school in Pennock and attended Junior and Senior High School in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High school in 1964. On November 24, 1967, Sherlan was united in marriage to Rosaline "Rosie" Grussing at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Following their marriage, they lived in Willmar. He was a member of the Plumbers Pipefitters local 308 and Pipefitter local 539 and worked as a pipefitter for 46 years. Sherlan served in the United States Army National Guard and received honorable discharge in 1973.
Sherlan was a member of the First Reformed Church in Willmar where he served on various committees, was a deacon and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin, boating, fishing, winters in Florida, playing cards and having a cat by his side. He was a sports enthusiast! Whether it be local, national, professional or Olympics, he LOVED it all!! He was huge fan of watching all of the sports his four grandsons played. Yet, his biggest joy in life was his daughters, Heather and Crystal.
On July 7, 2025 Sherlan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at J.A. Wedum Hospice House of Brooklyn Park, MN. He is survived by his daughter Heather Calvin of Tampa, FL, Crystal (and Darrel) Hudson of Rogers, MN; grandsons Malakai, Logan, Carter and Levi, his brother Ethan (and Sharon) Calvin of Willmar, his sister Blanche Swenson of Atwater, and sister-in-law June Johnson; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosie in 2020, his parents; brothers Darrel and Wesley.
