With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Sherman Donald "Don" Barton at the age of 91, on November 2, 2024. Born on January 5, 1933, in Newark, NJ, Don was the beloved son of the late Morris Bornstein and Helen Prechar. He has been a resident of the Aiken community since 1978.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he applied his skills and talent as an electrician, a trade in which he was highly skilled and respected.
Don was well-known for his passion for collecting. His collection was as vast as it was varied, a testament to his keen interest in preserving stories and history. His love for storytelling and his historical knowledge made him a treasured conversationalist, captivating audiences with tales from the past and his own life experiences.
Being the last of the Barton lineage, Don leaves behind no immediate family members but is survived by a group of loyal and loving friends who shared a deep bond with him, providing companionship and care. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those special friends who stood by Don's side, ensuring he was surrounded by love and kindness.
Funeral services to honor Don's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 9, 2024, at The George Funeral Chapel. Chaplain Randull Tiller will officiate the service. Following the ceremony, a repass will take place at the funeral home, where friends can gather to share memories and pay their respects. Interment will be private.
In memory of Don, let us celebrate the beautiful tapestry of his life, woven with service, stories, and cherished friendships. May he rest in eternal peace.
