He is survived by all his children - Margo Williams, Karen Cushing (Carl), Brenda Borowski (Jeff), Mark Williams, Amy Marrier (Peter), Elizabeth Williams (Don), Matthew Williams (Jen), Mary Engisch (Peter) – and his 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and his sisters-in-law, Helen Bailey, Margaret "Midgey" Williams, and Pauline Bushey.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Earlene (Bailey) Williams, in April 2022, his parents and siblings, and his beloved grandson, Michael Stoddard.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1944, and at the very end of World War II, was stationed on the U.S.S. Boxer in the South Pacific.
A lifelong carpenter who built many homes in Essex Junction and nearby towns, when he wasn't working, he was always active and on the go. He loved ice skating, biking, square dancing, horseshoes, playing volleyball, running and walking.
He was an avid gardener and bird lover. Over the decades, he tended large vegetable gardens and grew beautiful flower gardens. His grandkids often helped "Papa" in the garden.
The family would like to especially thank the caregivers from Green Mountain Internal Medicine, Home Health & Hospice and a special thank you to Julia and Lindsey.
A small, private family service will be held at A.W. Rich Funeral Home chapel.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sherman (my Sister-in-law Brenda's Dad) in 2016 and we had a wonderful visit! Such a lovely soul, so warm and welcoming. It is a memory I will treasure always. Rest easy now, and know you will be in our hearts forever with Love.
