We come together today to celebrate the life and home going of Sherman Berry Yandel. Sherman was the son of the late Alice Lorraine Morris Yandel and Henry Ozone Yandel. He was grandson of the late John Russel Morris and June Ressie Claiborne Morris. Sherman has an abundance of family members and friends that brought him great joy.
Sherman was born in Pittsburgh, PA and resided in Erie, PA the last 28 years of his life. In his youth, Sherman was a star basketball player at Schenley high school in Pittsburgh and Washington High school in Washington, PA. He was 6 feet 6 inches tall, and in his playing days friends referred to him fondly as "six ten" or "McGarrett" because his playing number was 5-0. After graduating high school, Sherman joined the Groove Phi Groove Fraternity at the University of Pittsburgh.
In his, life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and spent time worshiping at the Salvation Army in Pittsburgh and in Erie. As with many of us, he spent time in the wilderness, in spite of this his faith in the Lord never wavered. He had a good and kind spirit and loved animals. Sherman also loved Pittsburgh teams and all sports. He enjoyed reading the Bible, talking with family and friends and seeing local shows. He always had a nice sense of fashion and put together nice outfits.
Sherman is preceded in death by brothers Johnnie and Larry Yandel, sisters Barbara Ann Pollard and Yvonne Yandel Adams, as well as nephews Shawn Christian Adams Hughes and Russel Pollard. Sherman leaves to mourn him a brother, Donald Curtis Yandel, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and sisters in law Bernadette Louise Yandel and Florence Marlene Yandel. Sherman and his great sense of humor and smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
