Sherrie Lee Barnes, age 62, of Irene, South Dakota, died unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
A celebration of Sherrie’s life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Sherrie was born on December 5, 1963 in Osmond, Nebraska to Hans and Deanna (Stallbaum) Jorgensen. Sherrie grew up in Coleridge, Nebraska. She attended Coleridge High School and later obtained her GED. Sherrie went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, graduating from Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She married Allen “Joe” Barnes on October 21, 1983. Allen and Sherrie lived in Irene, South Dakota for 15 years before moving to Coleridge in March of 2021. When Allen passed away on March 11, 2024, Sherrie moved back to Irene. Sherrie loved cooking, baking, canning foods, camping with her family and making soaps for her business, Secret Pleasure Soap & More.
Sherrie is survived by her three children: Cassandra Zurcher, Nina Barnes and Terrance Barnes, all of Irene; step children, Krista Barnes and James (Jennifer) Barnes, both of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Tammie Dickes and Kristie Borer, both of Hartington, NE.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Deanna Jorgensen; and her husband, Allen “Joe” Barnes.
