It is with both joy and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Sherrill D. Alvey, on January 15th, 2026. He was born in Escalante, UT, on January 16th, 1933, to Angus Alvey and Julia Christensen Alvey.
In 1952, Dad enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, a short time later he married Dorothy J. Poulson on December 28th, 1952. Later, the two were sealed for time and eternity in the Manti Utah Temple. Throughout his Air Force career, he moved our family, including five children—many times, often completing several deployments by himself. After serving for 20 years, he retired in 1972 at Hill Air Force Base. He continued his professional career as a civilian at the same base for another two decades, retiring in 1992. During these years, Dad also earned his bachelor’s degree from Weber State University.
Dad was renowned for his remarkable talent in fixing just about anything. He spent countless hours in his garage, meticulously tinkering and repairing, always eager to take on a new project or lend a helping hand to others in need.
In addition to his practical skills, Dad possessed a deep love for music. He played the upright bass and was an active member of several bands, especially during his years of military service.
He is survived by his five children: Brad (Susan) Alvey, Debi (Dan) Wheatley, Kevin (Lisa) Alvey, Joyce (Curt) Goehring, and Kris (Mike) Leatham. Dad also leaves behind a legacy through his 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
Dad was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy J. Poulson Alvey, as well as his parents and his sister, Beverly Garcia. We find comfort knowing that they have welcomed him home with open arms.
A Graveside service to honor and celebrate Dad's life will be held on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Lindquist's Memorial Park, located at 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
