Sherrill (Doxtader) Walsh, 75, currently residing in Geneseo, a longtime resident of Little Falls and Salisbury Center, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 28, 2023.
Sherrill was born on July 16, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Donald and June (Dize) Doxtader. She grew up in Urbanna, Virginia, and spent many summers there with cousins and friends after moving to New York in her youth. Sherrill was a 1966 graduate of Little Falls High School and she attended Dutchess Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College where she received a degree in the arts in 1969.
She was the owner of both The Emporium Flower & Gift Shop in the 1980s and Curtains & Fabrics shop in the early 2000s. She was mostly known throughout her life though as an accomplished artist. Several people near and far are likely to be blessed with an ornament, painting or even a door hanging made by Sherrill.
Survivors include her beloved family; her daughters, Jennifer Dotterweich and husband Paul of Geneseo, Kari Szymanski and husband Chet of Little Falls; her loving grandchildren, Phillip and Evan Dotterweich of Geneseo, and Eleanor and Owen Szymanski of Little Falls; her beloved brother Dean Doxtader and sister-in-law Kathleen; her special nieces Katrina Talbot and husband Justin along with their sons Ander and Bode, and Elaine Doxtader and her companion Zachary Grahm. She also leaves behind several extended family members including several nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law with whom she was proud to have maintained friendships with over the many years. Sherrill is preceded by her parents, Don and June and late husband Brian Walsh.
The family would like to thank the several doctors and nurses who took such great care of Sherrill for many years at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. They also thank the staff at Fresenius Care Rochester and in the Cardiac Unit at URMC Rochester.
The family will celebrate Sherrill’s life in a private memorial. She will be laid to rest at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Little Falls City School District to the Sherrill Walsh Fund.
