It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sherrill Craig Sims, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on May 13, 2025, at his home in Largo, Florida. Sherrill was born on April 20, 1948, in Kennett, Missouri, and his life spanned 77 years filled with love, service, and devotion to family and community.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Sandra Sims, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 48 years, having tied the knot on October 29, 1976, in Waukegan, Illinois. Together they built a life rich with memories and a legacy of love. Sherrill was an exceptional father to his two daughters, Sandra (Sims) Ritschard, married to Charles W. Ritschard, Jr., and Susan (Sims) Profitt. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Riley E. Ritschard, and grandson, Michael A. Prophet. He also leaves behind his brother, Elmer Harley Sims, and sisters, Nannie Lou (Sims) Hartwich and Brenda Kay (Sims) Slaughter, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Sherrill dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Chief Master at Arms before retiring in 1994. His commitment to service continued beyond his military career as he transitioned into the HVAC field and later served as the lot manager for a local car dealership. Sherrill's hard work and dedication inspired those around him, both in the workplace and in his community.

A man of faith, Sherrill was a teacher at Seminole United Methodist Church, sharing his knowledge and love for the Bible with others. He was also a proud member of American Legion Post 273, exemplifying his commitment to honoring those who have served. In his younger years, he found joy in woodworking, creating beautiful wooden toys and puzzles that brought smiles to children's faces. In his later years, he found solace and fulfillment in studying the Bible, which reflected his deep spiritual convictions.

Sherrill's life was characterized by his unwavering love for his family and his community, leaving a mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He faced health challenges in his final years, battling heart problems with courage. His strength and resilience were evident until the very end.

A service celebrating his life at Bay Pines National Cemetery at a later date.

Sherrill Craig Sims will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knows no bounds. May he rest in peace.
