Sherrill Jane Weatherbee Craig Goelzer, 74 passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, with her family at her side. The family will have her memorial service Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Country Estates Community Center at 7800 W 81 Avenue, Amarillo Texas 79119.
Sherrill was born on February 11, 1949, to the late Edna June Richmond Weatherbee and Wilbur Warren Weatherbee in Eureka Kansas. She moved with her family (not that she had a choice) to Amarillo Texas in 1959 when she was 10. She attended schools in Amarillo ISD and graduated from Tascosa
High School in 1967. During high school, Sherrill was a candy striper at Northwest Texas Hospital. After high school, Sherrill attended Amarillo College to study bookkeeping and 10 key entry. In January of 1970, Sherrill married Charlie Craig and they were married for 30 years and had three children, Monty, Kathleen, and Brenda. Sherrill later remarried Richard Goelzer
Professionally Sherrill worked 3 years at Kmart and managed the women's department. Shortly after, she took a break from the 40-hour work week to be a full-time mom to three children and work 7 days a week 24 hours a day. She needed to add more to her schedule and reentered the workforce in 1978 working for Toot-n-Totum Convenience Stores Corporate Office, where she put that accounting and 10 key to experience to work. From handwriting accounting ledgers and entering miles of 10 key tape and counting millions of dollars of physical cash from 79 stores on paper to computerized accounting & excel workbooks, she loved the accounting side of that business as well as the variety of individual internal companies she worked with day to day all the way down to each of the separate store managers. After 25 years in 2002 she left that position to work for Taylor Petroleum where she stayed for the next 10 years until her retirement.
Sherrill was quick to laugh easy to get along with and enjoyed life, she enjoyed her children although they exhausted her from all the laundry, cooking, homework, cub scouts and bluebirds, cheerleading, football baseball, and softball. For many years she picked up kids in the neighborhood and brought them to church both at Hillcrest Baptist and South Georgia Baptist, as well as taught Sunday School. For years after she would run into grown adults that remember her from picking them up to bring them to church as children, where they learned that God loved them and that Jesus died for them, but they better behave in church. She will be missed and her passing leaves a hole in the world.
Sherrill is preceded in death by her parents June and Butch Weatherbee whom she has missed dearly since their passing.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Goelzer; brother, Jimmy and wife Deb Weatherbee, of Amarillo, her sister Janice and husband John Walden, of Edmond Oklahoma; Her three children and their spouses, Monty and his wife Amy Craig, her daughter Kathleen Mitchell and husband Jim and daughter Brenda Simmons and husband Cody; her grandchildren Katie, Jacob, Justin, Aydin, Tucker, and Tate.
Sherrill leaves not only family but also a string of dear friends who will mourn her passing, but also celebrate that they got a chance to be friends.
