Sherry Carter

Mebane, North Carolina - Sherry Carter, 78, died peacefully at Duke University Hospital on January 24, 2021 with her husband and two daughters by her side. She was born in Lowell, N.C. to the late Mike Greene and Mildred McAndrews Greene. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by a brother, Barry Greene.
Sherry graduated with a degree in business and minor in music from Mars Hill University (class'62). She worked for two different railroads and an insurance company in Winston-Salem, NC while her husband was enrolled at Wake Forest University. After moving to Hillsborough, Sherry became the administrative assistant for First Baptist Church and later Finance Director of the Town of Hillsborough. Under her leadership the Town's financial department annually received recognition awards for management of its finances.
Sherry began playing the piano at age four and became an accomplished pianist and organist. She served as an organist for many churches and was director of children choirs. She was a deaconess, served on many church ministry teams, sang in the chancel choir and loved to make her own cards to send to those who needed to be recognized and encouraged. She loved her church family dearly, her Bible Study Class and members of a cherished prayer group.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Reginald Carter; daughters, Page Carter Roberts and husband Billy, Penny Carter King and husband Michael; grandchildren, Zachary Roberts, Brooke Jernigan and husband Dakota, Camden Roberts, Hayley King, Grayson King; sisters, Jean Wallace, Jewell Norwood; and brothers, Keith Greene, Stan Greene, Chuck Greene.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27th via a Zoom link at First Baptist Church in Hillsborough. Click here for access to the service:

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face coverings and social distancing are required for all services. We ask that anyone experiencing cold/flu-like symptoms please stay home.
The family wants to thank all the people who have prayed and reached out to us during this time. We especially appreciate the wonderful care given to her by the nurses and doctors in the Covid-19 medical unit at Duke University.
