Sherry Clark Obituary

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Sherry McGugin Clark, a beloved member of the Cookeville community, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on July 27, 1958, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Sherry was a vibrant and dedicated individual whose life was marked by her commitment to education and her entrepreneurial spirit.

Sherry graduated from Putnam County Senior High School before earning her degree from Tennessee Tech University, where she later attained a master's degree. She devoted many years to teaching at Park View Elementary and Prescott Elementary, where she touched the lives of her students with her passion for learning and her care for their well-being. Following the passing of her father, she bravely took on the role of a business lady, running MuGugin Oil, along with her mother and brother, a company founded by her father-and continuing his legacy.

Beyond her professional achievements, Sherry was a person of many interests and passions. She had a deep love for music, guitar and rock n roll. Her enthusiasm for sports cars showed her adventurous spirit, making her a remarkable character in the lives of those who knew her.

Sherry is survived by her loving family, including her son, Matt (Candace) Clark of Cookeville; her daughter, Alison (Josh) King of Knoxville; and her cherished grandchildren, Oliver and Mariah Clark and Ila King. She also leaves behind her brother, Harry (Sherry) McGugin of Cookeville; her sisters, Teresa Danner of Cookeville and Becky (Axel) Gray of Jacksonville, FL; and a number of aunts, including Marilyn Hand, Elizabeth McKinley, Janet Francis, Kay Deveau, Martha McCracken, and Harriet McReynolds.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Thomas and Mary Ellen Murphy McGugin, Jr., whose legacy she honored through her own dedication to family and community.

As we remember and celebrate her life, let us reflect on the joy she brought to those around her, her heartfelt dedication to her work, and the unwavering love she had for her family. Sherry's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral services for Sherry will be held at 11am, Saturday, February 8th, 2025 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-7pm and again on Saturday from 10am until time of the service at the funeral home.
