Sheryl Stein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Inc. - Capitol Drive on Jun. 23, 2022.
Sheryl Ann Stein (Schrank), 61, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at home surrounded by family after a 22-month courageous battle with cancer. Sheryl never let the cancer control her life, and lived each day to its fullest until the very end. Sheryl was born March 29, 1961, in Portage, Wisconsin to Audrey and Donald Schrank. Sheryl graduated from UW-La Crosse, where she met her future husband, Scott Stein. Family was everything to Sheryl. Sheryl started her family on June 22, 1985, marrying the love of her life, Scott, who she often called Scooter. Sheryl's love for Scott was only overshadowed by the love she had for their two children, Heather, and Jordan. She always made sure her children experienced life to the fullest and felt loved. Sheryl also brought this same love to her two granddaughters, Avery and Sophie. Sheryl spent her career working in Early Child Care and ended her career as an administrator at Bright Horizons. She retired from Bright Horizons in November of 2020, which was not an easy thing for her to do, as she truly loved her work.
Sheryl's biggest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and always placing family before herself. Sheryl guided her family to happiness and success in their lives. Sheryl had an amazing positive impact on her family and others she encountered throughout her life. Sheryl loved being a grandmother and made a point to spoil her grandchildren and shower them with love. Sheryl enjoyed a long weekend this spring in Chicago, to visit the American Girl Place with Avery and Heather, where she gifted Avery with her own American Girl Doll and of course all the accessories.
Sheryl loved to socialize, travel, bike, craft (especially with her granddaughter Avery), knit, read, buy purses, watch Lifetime movies with Heather, watch Heather compete in dance, eat the meals Jordan cooked, watch Jordan play soccer, and offer her advice to everyone around her (whether they wanted it or not).
One of Sheryl's last vacations was to New York City in December 2021. She was especially excited as she got her wish to have her brother, Tom, and his wife, Tammy, go with her and Scott.
Sheryl had many close friends in the area and enjoyed gathering at homes for holidays, celebrations and just for drinks and fun. A friend of Sheryl was family, and family was the most important thing to her.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her mother Audrey Schrank, father in-law Edward Stein, and mother in-law Elsie Stein, grandparents, and an aunt.
Sheryl is survived by her husband Scott Stein, children Heather (Jordan) Fish, Jordan (Moriah) Stein, brother Thomas (Tammy) Schrank, grandchildren Avery and Sophie Fish, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As we remember Sheryl, a part of her lives on in all the memories and stories we share about her.

Scott, Heather and Jordan,
Very sorry to hear of Cheryl's passing. Many fond memories of watching soccer games with her. I hope you find comfort in remembering her enthusiastic cheering from the sidelines....she is still there cheering for all of you.

I had the honor of working with Sheryl at Bright Horizons. Her leadership was powerful and she built a culture at her center that is next to none. Sheryl and her team provided strong education and loving care for children and families. I'm proud of her work and her legacy will live on. Shine on my friend and we will continue to work hard to make you proud.
