Shifra Chasan, 77, died on June 10, 2023 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Nachum Chasan. She will be missed by her children, Tammy Pomeranz (Tony), Noam Chasan (Estelle), Eytan Chasan, and Daniella Chasan-Barnea (Matan). She was Bubbe to Hannah, Zachary, Rebecca and Lev and they loved her very much. Shifra is also survived by her brother Alberto Klawir (Viviana).
Shifra dedicated her professional career to Jewish education. Scores of Jewish children developed their love of Judaism and Hebrew in her classroom. She delighted in seeing her students grow into adulthood in the Jewish community. “Morah Shifra” as she was known by her students, was one of those teachers you just don’t forget. She was also a longtime and well-loved staff member at Camp Ramah in the Poconos, her home away from home for more than 40 years. One of her favorite places in the world was the porch of Bunk 46, where the Ramah community would inevitably come to sit, talk, and nosh with her.
Shifra was raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and met Nachum in Israel in 1967. She came to the U.S. after they were married and learned to speak English, adding to her knowledge of Spanish, Hebrew and Yiddish, all of which she spoke fluently. Shifra was a world traveler. She and Nachum visited the former Soviet Union to meet with refuseniks before the Cold War ended. She delighted in visiting Israel, Italy, Morocco, went on safari in Africa, and traveled to many other far-flung destinations, collecting tchotchkes at every port of call.
Her final years were marked with medical adversity and long hours in dialysis. Her family is grateful that her long illness and suffering are over.
The funeral will begin promptly on Monday, June 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Adath Israel on the Main Line, 250 N Highland Ave, Merion Station, PA 19066. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill West, Makom Shalom, 321 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA.

Morah Shifra was such a kind and gentle woman. She taught all of my children with her warm and loving personality and her genuine love for teaching always showed. May her memory be a blessing to all those who knew her.
