Mrs. Shirlee Foley Powell, age 81 of Bassett, Virginia passed away on October 22, 2025, at her home. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia on December 15, 1943, to the late Calvin Luck Foley Sr. and Cassie Lovell Foley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bebe Rakes; and two brothers, C. J. Foley and Ronnie Foley. Shirlee enjoyed shopping, country music, and working at Bassett Walker. She was a member of New Hope Church of the Brethren and used to quilt with the ladies at church. Shirlee loved her family tremendously, with her grandbabies and great-grandbabies bringing her great joy.
Left to cherish the memories of Shirlee are her devoted husband, Forrest L. Powell of the home; one daughter, Cindy Seay of Fieldale, Virginia; one step-daughter, Deborah Baar (Sonny) of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Travis Hambrick, Joshua Hambrick, Sean Seay (Ariel), Brian Seay; three great-grandchildren, Riley Hambrick, Raylan Hambrick, and Hailey Hambrick; two sisters, Nellie Smallwood (Bruce) of Bassett, Virginia, Elvie Leonard (Jim) of Rising Sun, Maryland; two brothers, Billy Foley of Horsepasture, Virginia, Donnie Foley of Stuart, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Powell will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Church of the Brethren with Pastor Rick Randall officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, Virginia.
