Shirley Aimone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home - Ironwood on Nov. 12, 2024.
Shirley Ann (Dahl) Aimone, 95, of 240 E. Ash Street, Ironwood, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the Westgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Shirley was born on May 20, 1929, in Ironwood, the daughter of the late Richard and Anna (Hagstrom) Dahl. She attended A.L. Norrie School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1947. On August 6, 1949 she was united in marriage with Joseph Aimone in Ironwood by the Rev. F.E.W. Kastman. Joseph preceded her in death on November 7, 2000.
Immediately after graduation Shirley was employed as a secretary in the Ironwood School District working in Central and Norrie Schools and L.L. Wright High School, a position she held until her marriage. She was also employed by State Farm Insurance, the Ironwood Daily Globe, Snow Country Enterprises, and J.W. Huss Inc., until retiring in 1997.
Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent many happy years caring for her family, ending conversation with "I love you". She enjoyed cooking, baking canning, knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, crafts, painting, reading, and her flowers. For not being Italian, Shirley made the best meat ravioli. Most of all she enjoyed spending time and talking with her family, and taking her numerous trips to Alaska. She was a past member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Range Art Association.
Surviving is her daughter, Susan Piazza of Lake Tomahawk, WI; three sons, Gary of Hurley, Joel (Joellen) of Florida, and John (Tina) of Woodruff; two granddaughters, Jillian Aimone of Jackson, WI, and Megan Swanson of Woodbury, MN; two grandsons, Jeffrey Piazza of Lake Tomahawk and Benjamin Aimone of Woodruff; two great-granddaughter, Mary Katherine Aimone of Duluth, MN and Gabriella Swanson of Woodbury, MN; and two great-grandsons, Isaac and Noah Nanz of Jackson, WI.
Other survivors include a special niece, Louise (Patrick) Bunjovac, who frequently called just to chat, from Green Bay, WI, and a special nephew, Rod (Jean) Smith of Ironwood, along with other nieces, nephews, and dear helpful neighbors.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; brother, Rudolph; sisters, Eleanore Smith and Goldie LeMieux; daughter-in-law, Charlene Aimone, and son-in-law, Michael Piazza.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be a private service for the family.
Thank you to all the staff at Westgate Nursing Care Facility. Like angels, you were the hands of kindness and care, offering support and compassion during this difficult time. Your encouraging words and comforting hugs helped our family through our mother's end of life journey, you will never be forgotten and you'll always be in our hearts. Gary, Susan and John.
